This was probably the most adventurous weekend we’ve had to date. As you know Friday 6/5 was a national donut day and we ventured out that evening to score some sweet deliciousness.
Our first attempt was a well known spot that we have frequented on several occasions. A little 4.6-star donut spot called The Donut Man. They are located on the famous Route 66 in Glendora. We have been here a few times in the past and their donuts and service are incredible. The donuts are always fresh and way above par. What they are known for their fresh strawberry donuts and their always out-of-stock Apple fritters.
On this night the line was insane to say the least. It was almost 10pm and the racks were so empty that not even a crumb remained. The owner was standing outside notifying the crowd that there was just enough glaze left for 2 dozen of his famous strawberry donuts and production would then shift to making the other donuts. Here is a pic of the line that snaked through the parking lot and wrapped around the building.
You can see the owner in this picture wearing all white.
Our next attempt to partake in National Donut Day, was to a place we found online called Freshh Donuts over in Chino Hills. Another highly rated spot. Here is how we fared.
Sorry for the blurry pic. As you can see, when you have over a 4-star rating people clean you out. We did manage to grab a couple their glaze and a single chocolate covered cruller. They were pretty tasty. Not Donut Man amazing, but pretty good overall.
Next on the weekend agenda was an early Saturday morning 9 mile hike on Skyline Trails. We got a bit of a late start but it worked out in the most unusual way.
As we were trekking up the hill, I hear someone shouting my name from a group that we passed going in the opposite direction. As I turn to look back, this guy is riding back up the hill to catch up to me. It was the DJ from my wedding reception some 16 years ago. He and I go way back, just lost contact and haven’t been in touch since the wedding. Amazing how God has things work out. I mean he doesn’t even live near the area. He just happened to get invited out for a hike by some friends that morning. Had my wife and I not got a late start, we would have missed each other. Another long time friend reconnection. I still remember going on DJ’ing gigs with him back on the day.
On Sunday we had an amazing church service at New Day Christian Fellowship.
We had guest singer Sherrie Bryant that blew the roof off the place. Truly blessed to hear her sing. No pics, but check out her music if you can.
We also caught a few movies this weekend as well. Saturday date night with my wife to check out “Spy” with Melissa McCarthy and Jason Statham…funniest movie I have seen in years!!! Jason Statham is hee-larry-us! Don’t steal my word. Lol. “San Andreas” on Sunday was pretty good as well. After watching this movie, I’m definitely moving to Texas.
On the way home from the movies to catch game 2 of Golden State and Cleveland Finals, we exited the freeway to come across a guns drawn shake down arrest. They even brought out a K-9 unit. No shots fired, but crazy!
Thank God no one was injured and the situation was handled correctly. No runners. Code 4. Book’em Danno. Sucks their turbo IS 300 is getting impounded.
Here is the video.
Oh well. That’s all folks!
